Oil

When to Add

Add oil when the level drops to about midway on the visual level gauge located on the reservoir. (Right hand side of photo.) At this level the oil-level sensor in the reservoir is borderline on indicating low oil. (When the flow is turned on the controller may shutdown the pump after about 1 minute and indicate a low-oil condition. As oil in the pipes drains back into the reservoir the low-oil condition clears itself.)

Oil level

7 buckets of 5 US Gal (18.9L) is sufficient to fill the reservoir to the top when the reservoir is half full.

22 buckets completely fills an empty reservoir to slightly above the blue indicator line. The overfill is taken up by the piping when the pump is running.

Technical Specs

Oil Type

The oil that we are using as of November 2001 is Hytac 32 (having a viscosity of 32 cSt.)

The oil must be compatible with Buna seals.

(The old oil that we were using was Hytac 46 Red/Rouge.)
